This week (September 10-16th) is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. Sponsored by the American Trucking Association, it is a week for the nation to honor truck drivers for dedication and hard work. These three and a half million men and women are committed to keeping our economy and goods moving in the right direction.
Truck Drivers are Exceptional
Lori Parks, Penmac Transportation Manager, says most people don’t realize the huge responsibility that drivers take on.
“The independence and professionalism our drivers demonstrate is exceptional,” Parks says. Drivers have to complete pre-trip inspections, post-trip inspections and be in good health to pass physicals. Additionally, they take care of maintenance, make sure everything arrives safely, and stay on a strict schedule. “Service is their value,” Parks says. “In our department, we rarely have drivers who don’t show up, or who come in late. To summarize, drivers are known for being reliable, punctual, and hardworking.”
Safety is a Priority
Safety is one of the highest priority in the trucking industry. Drivers make sure goods are delivered safely, securely, and on time. They work to keep the nation’s highways safe by making sure their vehicles are running efficiently, and always staying alert. Their safety conscious mindset prevents thousands of accidents every year.
Truck drivers have a tough lifestyle. Many have to be away from families and the comforts of home, but they are willing to work whenever needed to make sure the job gets done.
